NOSTALGIA X

An installation of found materials on rusted aluminium canvas exploring the inherent romanticisation of Soviet-era restorative nostalgia which operates as a reinforcement of heteronormativity in the present. These materials become used in later performances as objects which deteriorate and become new embodiments of re-worked queer narratives in the post-Soviet. They convey a sense of longing and belonging, whilst the queering of their use asserts alternative narratives of selfhood.
